We’re Atheists — We don’t believe in Heaven, Hell, God or the devil. But Fred Phelps, Sr., the founder of the extremist Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas, certainly does.

The trouble is “Pastor” Phelps apparently gets them all confused. For, you see, he clearly thinks that God is Satan and that Satan is God. You might recall that Pastor Phelps and his Merry Band of Hateful Morons are the ones who picket military funerals, stage anti-gay rallies and, startlingly, are apparently planning to picket the funerals of the children and adults massacred on Friday at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.
Apparently, “Pastor” Phelps’ demented premise is that because our society is increasingly tolerant of homosexuality, blasphemy, promiscuity, etc., God is angry at us and is sending the shooters who perpetrate these mass killings, as Phelps puts it, in God’s name. Their main slogan is “GOD HATES FAGS” and they see it as their mission to explain what annoys God to the general population. We would rather believe that, were there a God, it would hate the Westboro Baptist Church.
What “Pastor” Phelps and his minions of Hell are not, is a legitimate religious organization and we believe they should not be granted tax immunity. If you are as outraged as we are, please consider signing this White House petition to remove the tax-exempt status of the Westboro Baptist Church. Here’s another petition to classify the Westboro Baptist Church as a hate group that you may sign if you’d like to help.
